Entertaiment is everything that amuses us, distracts us or keeps us from thinking about something else. It may be the clown at your child’s birthday party, a Broadway show or stadium rock concert or even your friends fighting over the last potato chip. Although entertainment evolves over time, the fundamental forms of theatre, music, movies and games are recognizably the same as in earlier centuries. This is illustrated by the story of Scheherazade from the Persian professional storytelling tradition that inspired orchestral works by Rimsky-Korsakov and Ravel, a film by Pasolini and an innovative video game.
